A dealer listing references 26A on a 2018 Chrysler 300. The decoded description is “Customer Preferred Package 26A. This code identifies a factory option package or special-edition equipment group” Is the build sheet normally enough for a pre-purchase check, or should I confirm it another way?

The dealer should be able to pull a VIN-specific equipment or parts record. Ask them to search by VIN rather than entering only the three-character code.

On these vehicles, similar descriptions can use different codes because of supplier changes or package combinations. The code itself is useful, but the VIN-specific parts catalog is better before ordering anything.

If the feature is listed but not working, scan all related modules before assuming it was removed. A stored fault, replacement module, or configuration mismatch can make original equipment appear absent.

The wording may be abbreviated because these were originally production codes rather than consumer descriptions. “Customer Preferred Package 26A. This code identifies a factory option package or special-edition equipment group” is a reasonable plain-English reading, but the exact implementation should be verified for the 2018 model.

If you are documenting the vehicle, save both the original wording and the readable explanation. That preserves the factory terminology while making the record understandable later.

I have seen this on a similar Chrysler 300. The basic description was correct, but one related feature was part of a separate package. I would not assume the code includes every item mentioned in marketing material.
